Are your Kids More Internet Savvy than you are?

Please join us on Tuesday, May 6th from 7- 8:30 pm in the Library.

Alameda 5th Grade Parent, John Richardson, and School Counselor, Melanie Clark, will present a parent education evening on Cyber Safety. Are you fully aware of what your kids are able to do on the Internet? Have you talked with them lately about Internet Safety? Do your kids know what to do when they encounter an image or text on the Internet that makes them feel uncomfortable? Do you have a set policy for safe computer use within your home?

Come and explore the numerous technology risks your kids face each day, and leave with specific tools to help you to teach your child to safely navigate the web. We'll offer suggestions regarding how to walk through cyberspace with your child, and delve into a discussion with him or her regarding responsible computing behaviors.

Also included in this presentation are tools for parents at home, including policies to consider for computer (and other high-tech gadget) use and a series of recommendations for how to maintain your home computer so that you are a responsible cyber citizen.

This presentation was originally given to a group of parents at Alameda Elementary School.

This presentation largely builds on the excellent work of many other efforts in this space, including NetSmartz, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (Oregon), and Cyber Awareness, Responsibility and Ethics (CARE).
